Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have already confirmed that during their wedding this weekend the groom-to-be will be dressed as royalty, donning a traditional turban and sword as he makes an entrance on a horse. So what does that mean for Chopra—who coincidentally has played brides and even royalty in plenty of Bollywood films and is getting married in a literal palace in Jodphur? It means forget Ralph Lauren, you'll need to call in the Indian big-wigs for this one.
While the designer for Chopra's Christian ceremony gown has been all but confirmed as her former Met Gala fairy godmother, her outfit for her Hindu nuptials to Jonas have remained shrouded in secrecy. So just in time for Jonas and Chopra's big day—one which the actress told Vogue will be so lavish (see their welcome gifts as proof) guests will require vacations after—we've gathered as much info as we could on what the bride will don for the many Indian functions during her wedding.
While Indian brides have often taken to wearing yellow for their haldi ceremonies, to match the turmeric rubbed on their skin, we doubt Chopra will be so predictable. (Not to mention, the actress already donned yellow for her roka in Mumbai in August.) Instead, expect to see her surprise guests in an unconventional pale hue, letting the color of the haldi stand out. And thanks to Bollywood star Anushka Sharma, florals have been having a big moment in bridal wear, so Chopra might incorporate a nice print into this look. Anita Dongre is our front-runner for the designer for this ceremony; Chopra recently wore a long-sleeved peach Dongre ensemble for her Thanksgiving celebration in Mumbai.
Mehendi and Sangeet
If Chopra were any other Indian bride, she'd don a bright shade like hot pink or a flashy turquoise for this function. But Chopra is anything but typical. We expect, much like her friend and fellow Bollywood actress, Sonam Kapoor, Chopra will wear white to her Sangeet as a little nod to her Christian ceremony gown. But just because it's white, don't expect anything casual from this look.
Based on Chopra's bachelorette party outfit, a Georges Chakra feathered mini dress with matching cape, and her silvery-white Marchesa bridal shower gown with feathered detailing, we wouldn't be surprised if her Sangeet look featured plenty of volume and drama in the form of feathers, ruffles or tulle. Despite the sure-to-be over-the-top moment, Chopra has previously said she wants her wedding clothes to be "comfortable and cute" so, expect her Sangeet outfit to be lightweight and flowy so that she can stay on the dance floor all night.
As for the designer behind her Sangeet look, we're speculating Khosla Jani. The brand is the perfect blend of Indo-Western trends that Chopra and Jonas want their wedding to reflect, but Khosla Jani's bombastic and sexy designs also complement Chopra's style to a T. Even more telling? Khosla Jani was the designer behind the playful look Chopra wore while traveling to Jodphur from Mumbai on Thursday.
Hindu wedding ceremony
If Chopra's pre-wedding event outfits will turn trends on their head and bring her over-the-top style into the mix, expect her main Hindu ceremony look to return to her traditional roots. While the actress has often opted for making statements on red carpets, she has expressed a desire for her wedding to observe some tradition in regards to the Hindu celebration—which means Chopra is undoubtedly going to don red (and not the pastel hues which are dominating the Indian runways) for her seven Pheras.
All signs also point to Manish Malhotra as the designer behind her wedding day outfit. The actress has often worn his creations (favoring him over the other go-to wedding designer of the stars, Sabyasachi—most recently seen on bride Deepika Padukone). While attending the engagement of friend Isha Ambani earlier this year, Chopra wore a Manish Malhotra sari (Jonas wore a black Sherwani by the designer as well), and the couple also donned the designer's creations just this week for a puja hosted by Chopra's mother.
But just because Chopra will likely wear a traditional color of the event, don't except the wow-factor to be toned down at all. Expect heavy embroidery and layers of jewelry. She'll also likely bring her own flair to the occasion with an unexpected lehenga blouse or an extra long train, à la her bestie Meghan Markle's 16 foot train.
And while Chopra's longtime stylist Mimi Cutrell has already confirmed she's responsible for helping perfect Chopra's American wedding look, all eyes are on Ami Patel (@stylebyami) who seems to already have a hand in styling Chopra and Jonas's Indian wedding wardrobe.
