Meghan Markle may have cut ties with her social media once she wed Prince Harry, but one royal (thankfully) still gives us the opportunity to double tap on some exclusive pics—Princess Eugenie. Ever since joining Instagram last year, the 28-year-old has been giving the public a glimpse of real-life princessdom (with a few throwback photos tossed into the mix). Further proving her social media prowess, Eugenie spent the end of 2018 the same way as the rest of us commoners: recapping her highlights via Instagram Story, including a never-before-seen snippet from her proposal day.
Per Cosmopolitan, Eugenie's yearly recap kicked off with a major milestone—her engagement. The image posted to the royal's Instagram account shows a picturesque spot by a lake, backlit by the sunset, which we now know as the locale where now-husband Jack Brooksbank got down on one knee. "As 2018 draws to a close I wanted to share some of my favourite moments," Eugenie wrote on the snapshot. "1st January 2018 - Jack asked me to marry him." (The Palace didn't broadcast the engagement publicly until January 22, so she gave fans insight into their exact relationship timeline.)
The newly revealed photo came from a trip to Nicaragua, which the pair confirmed as the engagement location during a joint interview with BBC last year. After spilling details on Eugenie's rare sapphire engagement ring, the lovebirds then gushed on the splendor of the proposal scene. "We had a beautiful volcano, sun was setting, birds were flying," Brooksbank revealed.
Euegnie added, "The lake was so beautiful. The light was just a special light that I've never seen. I actually said, 'This is an incredible moment,' and then he popped the question."
Another "incredible moment" worthy of an Insta Story? The duo's October 12 royal wedding, of course, during which the bride stunned in creations by Peter Pilotto and Zac Posen for the ceremony and reception, respectively. Ending the celebrations in style, the duo also reportedly indulged in some late-night pizza the night before their honeymoon. So, there you have it, folks—from year-end Instagram photo montages to post-wedding comfort food, royals truly are just like us.
