Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank Broke Royal PDA Rules on Christmas

Ahh, newlyweds

It looks like Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are still in the honeymoon phase! These two couldn’t keep their hands off each other at the Christmas day service at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene on the Sandringham Estate in King’s Lynn, England. And by hands, we literally mean the two couldn’t stop holding hands even though it kind of goes against royal protocol.

Photos from the event show Eugenie in a festive red coat and a chic headband walking hand-in-hand with her husband.

While there is no official rule that prohibits PDA, Cosmopolitan points out it’s not a good look in front of Queen Elizabeth II. Royal Biographer Gyles Brandreth told People that the Queen never holds hands with her husband Prince Philip due to the "stoic values" of their generation. Out of respect, younger royals typically don’t hold hands (or get cuddly) around the Queen.

We suppose the romantic holiday spirit got the best of Eugenie and Brooksbank—meanwhile Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were uncharacteristically on good behavior. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex rarely refrain from holding hands, but for this occasion they chose to walk arm in arm.

Throughout their engagement, and well into their marriage, Markle and Harry have really pushed the traditional royal PDA limits. When they first got engaged royal expert Myka Meier told People the affection made the couple more relatable."While Prince Harry and Meghan holding hands is atypical for royal engagements, it is a seemingly welcomed gesture to show unity and celebration of their engagement period,” Meier said. "There is no protocol that says they cannot show affection on official engagements, and this gesture makes them relatable and lovable to the public.”

Now, holding hands is child’s play for the couple who even sneaks in a public kiss or two when they can. It's completely different from the way Kate Middleton and Prince William operate; They definitely take after the “stoic” generations that came before them, and any sign of PDA from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge is a rare one.

Clearly Harry and Markle’s affectionate nature has rubbed off on newlyweds Eugenie and Brooksbank, and hopefully the trickle down effect will hit Middleton and William next.
