Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal holiday card is nothing short of aww-inducing (The smiles! The matching outfits!! Everything about Princess Charlotte and Prince George and Prince Louis!!!). The palace released the gorgeous photo earlier this week, and the shot the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their adorable brood dressed casually in jeans and comfy sweaters. The whole family looks like their happiest, coziest, best and most beautiful selves, but there's one detail about the photo that had us "aww"-ing all over again: Charlotte's comfy sweater is actually a hand-me-down from her older brother, Prince George.
Prince George wore the sweater for the first time to the Queen's 90th birthday party in 2016, where he looked cute as ever pairing the blue cardigan with his usual shorts and high socks. Then, earlier this year, it was Charlotte's turn to rock the Peter Pan collared look for the first time. She wore the in the first set of (adorable) photos she took with her little brother, Prince Louis, right after he was born.
Kate Middleton is an avid outfit recycler and has been known to repeat some of her favorite looks, so it's hardly a surprise that the 3-year-old Princess is stealing a page from her mom's style book. In fact, some outlets are speculating that Kate's Christmas sweater is also a repeated outfit. As Town and Country points out, the grey knit looks incredibly similar to the sweater she wore for the Royal family's holiday photo in 2015.
While the fact that the royals re-wear their outfits certainly makes them more relatable, as British newspaper The Sunday Express points out, “There has been lots written about the Duchess and Prince William’s spending. It’s likely to be the reason why she is thrifty with her wardrobe and often recycles dresses and coats. Even a princess has to dress on a budget.” If that's the case, we can't wait until it's Prince Louis' turn to try his siblings' sweater on for size.
