In the proposal heard round the world, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially engaged. For the two of them, this means a lifetime of happiness and adorable photo ops. But what does the acquisition of a new royal sister mean for Harry's older brother, Prince William?
"For me, personally, I hope it means [Harry] stays out of my fridge and will stop him scrounging my food, which he's done for the last few years," the elder Prince told reporters in Helsinki on Wednesday, after noting how "excited and delighted" he and Kate are about the engagement.
"It's a fantastic process to go through, you know, the engagement, the build-up to the wedding," William added in footage shared by Kensington Palace's official Instagram account. "So they've got a lot of happy times ahead of them and I think they're very caught up in the moment, and I wish them all the happiness and success in planning the wedding. I hope it goes really well."
Harry proposed to Meghan in London earlier this month using an engagement ring he designed himself that features a large diamond sourced from Botswana complemented with two smaller diamonds that once belonged to his late mother, Princess Diana. Considering he proposed while they were roasting chicken, Prince William's dreams of a Harry-free fridge may be right around the corner. (Literally, the newly betrothed couple will be neighbors with Will and Kate.)
For her part, Duchess Kate Middleton has also expressed excitement over the engagement. "William and I are absolutely thrilled — it's such exciting news," she told reporters the day after the news was announced. "It's a really happy time for any couple, and we wish them all the best and hope they enjoy this happy moment."
Kate has not shared her thoughts on whether her excitement is related to the fact that she will no longer have to stock her pantry with extra snacks for her younger brother-in-law.
