As of Monday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially engaged, and the royal deets just keep spilling. We know the American actress is expected to break royal protocol by celebrating the holidays with the Queen, that Prince Harry designed the ring himself and included two of Princess Diana's diamonds, and that their wedding is planned for next Spring. But the one thing on everyone's minds was how Prince William and Kate Middleton reacted to the happy news. Now it's official: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have the blessing of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
In a very 2017 move, the other Royal couple gave them their best via social media. Monday morning, the official Kensington Palace Twitter released a statement reading, "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said of the engagement: 'We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.'" (On another note, whoever runs the Royals' social media must be having the time of their life today.)
We don't know yet whether Middleton will be one of Markle's bridesmaids, but obviously she and Pippa will be involved in the nuptials one way or another. Markle has been a regular at two Royal-adjacent weddings now. She apparently made such a good impression on Pippa that her invite was upgraded from reception-only to full-day, an exception to Pippa's engaged/married couples only rule for the ceremony.
Markle also got well wishes from some of her ex-colleagues on Suits. The show's creator wished the incoming Royal couple a "lifetime of happiness" on Twitter, while her co-star Patrick Adams joked, "She said she was just going out to get some milk..." And while Prince Harry has already gotten the blessing of Markle's real-life father, his TV counterpart wanted to weigh in as well. "Congratulations to my TV daughter Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on the news of their wedding engagement. Harry you have her TV Father’s blessing. Robert Zane approves," tweeted Wendell Pierce.
