At Princess Eugenie's royal wedding on Friday, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, who served as pageboy and bridesmaid, respectively, stole the show as they tumbled in the wind and goofed off with the rest of the miniature bridal party. Noticeably missing from this rambunctious squad, however, was Prince Louis, who opted not to attend the royal nuptials.
As both his parents did RSVP "yes" to the year's second royal wedding, the 5-month-old was likely left at home at Kensington Palace, in the very capable hands of his family's longtime nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo or another equally qualified caretaker, People reports. While the royal family has yet to issue a statement about its youngest member's notable absence, it's safe to assume that it's because Louis has been on this earth for less than six months, and therefore has yet to fully grasp the tricky ins and outs of royal wedding etiquette—presumably the same reason he skipped his uncle Prince Harry's wedding to Meghan Markle, which took place a little more than three weeks after his birth.
If that's not an adequate excuse, there's also the possibility that Louis just had to clock in some valuable tummy time. Or perhaps Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's exchange of "I dos" overlapped with a preset nap—and, as we can all surely agree, sleep for a newborn is way more important than even a televised family gathering attended by the likes of Cara Delevingne, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Ellie Goulding, and a whole host of other A-listers.
To date, Prince Louis has only been seen in public twice. He was first presented to the world on the day of his birth, April 23, when Kate Middleton and Prince William posed for photos while carrying him out of the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital in London. About three months later, the tiniest royal joined his family as he stepped out (figuratively, of course) for another royal outing: his christening, at the Chapel Royal of St. James's Palace. At this rate, there's a good chance we'll get our next glimpse of Louis sometime this month, perhaps in a new series of photos shot by his mom in honor of his six-month birthday on October 23.
