It looks like Prince Harry has taken on a new role as an Instagram husband! (Royals, they really are just like us.)
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first royal tour as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ended Wednesday, and the two took an adorable photo to commemorate the event.
On Thursday. the Kensington Royal Instagram account shared a photo of Markle in the Whakarewarewa Forest of Rotorua, New Zealand, the last stop on their schedule. In the pic—snapped by her royal hubby—the mama-to-be looks tiny next to the towering trees, but there’s one thing that’s definitely growing: her bump! The Duchess of Sussex is seen cradling her bump under a black puffer jacket that she borrowed from Prince Harry.
“Thank you New Zealand for the most wonderful last week of our tour,” the caption reads. “It has been a privilege to meet so many friendly Kiwis. Australia, Fiji, Tonga and NZ - we leave feeling inspired and reminded of how every single one of us can make a difference.”
The post ended with quote from Kate Sheppard: “The rain that refreshes the parched ground, is made up of single drops.”
Reporter Omid Scobie was on the ground at the time and revealed on Twitter how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex managed to get away for the private moment. "At the end of our last tour engagement, Harry and Meghan walked ahead of their team, security and myself (who was the pool reporter)," he said. "We were in the beautiful Whakarewarewa Forest and they wanted a moment to themselves. This photo, taken by Harry, was the result of that moment..."
Royals technically are not allowed to have personal Instagram accounts, but having the Kensington Palace account post your photo for you is one way to get around it. Markle, who deleted all her social media accounts back in 2017 when she got engaged, also used Prince Harry's sneaky tactic to post one of her original photos a few days ago. Ahead of the Invictus Games closing ceremony, the Kensington Royal Twitter account posted a photo taken by Markle complete with photo credits.
This royal tour, which took the couple to Australia, Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga, and New Zealand, has been a memorable one for the couple. It kicked off just days after the news of their pregnancy broke, and eyes haven’t been off them since. They’ve attended countless royal engagements, formal events and the all important Invictus Games.
At the opening ceremony of the 2018 Invictus Games, Prince Harry let it be known just how excited he his about his growing family. “First of all, thank you for the welcome you have given Meghan and I over the last few days,” he said. “I have been so proud to be able to introduce my wife to you and we have been so happy to be able to celebrate the personal joy of our newest addition with you all.”
While we couldn’t be happier for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, it does mean that we won’t get to see Markle stateside anytime soon. The couple has reportedly decided to push back their planned North American tour until after the baby arrives. TMZ reports that they have rescheduled for the fall, so Harry and Meghan stans still have something to look forward to. Hey, maybe they will bring the baby!
