IT'S REALLY HAPPENING! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have just announced that they are expecting their first child together, and we cannot contain our excitement. Kensington Palace confirmed the news Monday, writing in a statement:
“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019,” Kensington Palace said. “Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”
A source close to the royal family confirmed to People that the mama-to-be had her 12-week scan and is "feeling well". The exciting news comes fives months after the couple's May 19 wedding, and just two days after Prince Harry's cousin, Princess Eugenie's wedding. People were quick to speculate that the duchess might be expecting, given her loose-fitting Givenchy dress and coat she wore to the ceremony. The expecting parents first met in 2016 on a blind date and were first revealed as a couple in October 2016—making it extra monumental that they're announcing the exciting news almost exactly two years later.
Doria Ragland, Meghan's mother, issued a statement via Kensington Palace, saying, “Ms. Ragland is very happy about this lovely news and she looks forward to welcoming her first grandchild.”
The palace added that Prince William and Kate Middleton are “delighted” for the expecting couple, along with Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. We too are quite delighted.
