Shafonne Myers, owner and CEO of Pretty Pear Bride, the world's only magazine for plus-size brides, knows a thing or two about fashion and weddings. As a certified wedding and event planner and a gal with a serious love of all-things weddings (and a former bride herself), Shafonne understands the unique challenges of shopping for a plus-size wedding dress. Here, Shafonne shares her top tips for finding the perfect plus-size wedding dress.
Many brides say buying their wedding dress is the moment that they officially felt like a bride, but for plus-size and curvy engaged girls it can bring on another feeling: It can be a frustrating experience to go to a store that doesn't carry your size or has a very limited selection of plus-size gowns. To make sure your wedding-dress shopping is a one you remember for all of the right reasons, follow these three simple (but important) tips.
You must be knowledgeable when going plus-size dress shopping. Get familiar with different necklines, dress silhouettes and what looks good on you (and what doesn't). Study up on bridal designers, fabrics and cuts that complement your shape and body. And know your size and dimensions — it will make things much easier!
Try It On
Seeing a dress hanging on a rack and trying to determine if it will look good on you by just looking at it isn't helping you at all. You have to see how it will look on you, feel how it hugs your curves or doesn't hug your curves. You never know it might just turn out to be the one!
Your dress is out there! And don't let anyone make you settle for something you don't like or didn't want. If it's not in one place, visit another (and another) if you have to. You have to keep looking because the minute you settle, you won't be happy and everyone will know it.
