Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier refused to let a spinal injury keep him from dancing on his wedding day.
Eighteen months ago, doctors told the NFL star that he had a 20 percent chance of ever walking again after suffering from a debilitating injury during the 2017 season, USA Today reports. But on Friday night he proved them very, very wrong when he took his new wife for a spin on the dance floor shortly after they tied the knot. In the wake of the injury, Shazier underwent spinal stabilization surgery, and has since been working toward a full recovery by doing things like walking, jogging, lifting weights and driving. Before hitting the dance floor to the tune of Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It," he walked his now-wife Michelle Rodriguez down the aisle—something that they'd never expected was possible a year and a half ago.
The wedding took place at a hotel in Pittsburgh, and guests included a number of Ryan Shazier's fellow Steelers players, plus Modern Family star Sofia Vergara, per People. Rodriguez wore a tulle, princess-style gown with floral appliqués and a long veil, and Shazier was decked out in a lavender-colored dinner jacket. After they danced, the couple cut a (delicious-looking) five-tier wedding cake that was almost as tall as they were.
Rodrguez (who has already changed her Instagram handle to @mrs.shazier50), shared some photos from the special day to her feed. "Husband and wife," she captioned one. "When you marry your best friend.... 💍🖤 #shalieveinlove 5.3.2019," she wrote on another.
Clearly, this happy couple has a lot to celebrate.
