As the winter months roll in, it’s time to take a break from wedding planning and snuggle up on the couch with a cozy blanket, fuzzy socks, cuddly sweats and a great chick flick or rom-com. For movie marriage proposal scenes that will totally make you swoon, and romantic moments that will get you even more psyched for your own wedding day to come (or maybe serve as inspiration for your soon-to-propose significant other!), check out these scenes.
Sex and The City
Yes, Mr. Big, yes she will. While it may not have worked out as we hoped the first time around and they certainly had their ups and downs, the moment where Big so aptly proposes to Carrie in an empty closet with the perfect Manolo Blahnik, is pure cinematic (and swoon-worthy) gold.
It’s Irish folklore and tradition that Irish men cannot refuse a woman’s proposal for marriage if it’s done on leap day. So, when Amy Adam’s character Anna heads to Dublin to propose to long time boyfriend at a conference, her journey certainly doesn’t go as planned. However, there is still a proposal involved, it’s just not how Anna visualized it to be. Instead, she falls for the innkeeper she met on her travels and a truly romantic proposal scene ensues.
Sweet Home Alabama
As if a rom-com starring Reese Witherspoon and Patrick Dempsey isn’t enough to draw you in, the proposal scene in Sweet Home Alabama is picture perfect. Tiffany’s + Patrick Dempsey + “Will you marry me?” Yes. Yes. And yes. In true cinematic style, the rest of the film is loaded with lots of drama and a juicy story. While these two may or may not make it down the aisle, we still love this ring-tastic proposal moment.
Not to give anything away from this 2003 cult flick, (but we can’t help it) Colin Firth’s character, Jamie, in broken Portuguese proposes to his beloved Aurelia with these mangled, but so lovely words, “"I've come here with a view to asking you to marriage me. I know I seems an insane person because I hardly knows you, but sometimes things are so transparency, they don't need evidential proof."
A Walk to Remember
After Shane West asks, “Do you love me?” and, “Will you do something for me then?” You respond yes, of course. And that’s exactly what Mandy Moore’s character, Jamie, did to her now fiancé Landon. As she’s facing an uphill battle with cancer, the young couple decides to wed amidst her health crisis as a sign of their true love.
This movie plays with every emotion humanly possible. While there’s tons of tear-jerking moments, there’s also a really sweet scene where Luke (played by Ed Harris) proposes to his soon-to-be second wife, Isabel (Julia Roberts.) A spool of thread has never looked so romantic!
The Wedding Singer
While it also makes a pretty great song for cake cutting and first dances, Adam Singer singing, “I wanna make you smile whenever you are sad, carry you around when your arthritis is bad. All I wanna do, is grow old with you,” to Drew Barrymore on an airplane in The Wedding Singer is beyond music to our ears.
