Lea DeLaria, the actress we know and love as Orange Is the New Black's Big Boo, is engaged to editor Chelsea Fairless, the couple announced on Facebook yesterday.
"Despite their concerns about the patriarchal confines of marriage, actor and singer Lea DeLaria and editrix Chelsea Fairless of Brooklyn, New York, are pleased to announce their engagement," the 56-year-old star wrote. "No date has been set for the impending nuptials but it's safe to say that it will be the event of the season, or a total s--t show."
The couple met more than two years ago through fellow OITNB co-star Emma Myles, who plays Bible-thumper Leanne Taylor. "We've been together ever since," DeLaria told E! News shortly after the announcement went up.
DeLaria also dished she asked Fairless to marry her after January's Screen Actors Guild Awards. That night, OINTB took home the award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series.
"Everyone saw how emotional I was at the SAG awards. I was so filled with love," she explained. "I turned to her at the Netflix party that night and asked her to marry me. We announced it to all of our friends there. ... [But] we've kept it pretty hush-hush since."
Though they're still enjoying the glow of their engagement, the couple has made a few wedding plans — except for two big ones. "Sandra Bernhardt will be marrying us," DeLaria revealed. "She's a very close friend and she's an officiant. We called her right away. And Jesse Tyler Ferguson will be my best man. We go way back."
The couple is considering a July 2016 wedding date. "We want a nice long, romantic engagement," DeLaria said.
