It’s no secret that Oprah Winfrey can do anything, but she still manages to surprise us with her newfound talents on a regular basis. This week, we found out that she is, in fact, a relationship guru.
In a new video series, Winfrey and her BFF Gayle King answer reader questions about dating, and dish on some of their own experiences as well.
In response to a reader asking for advice about spicing up their long-term relationship, Winfrey revealed a failed time she tried to surprise her long-time love Stedman Graham. Let’s just say she did not get the reaction she was hoping for when she greeted him in nothing but a negligee.
"I'm standing at the stairs when he comes in, and he literally comes in, Stedman, walks right past me and says, 'What are you doing?'" she recalled.
King also remembered a time when she greeted now ex-husband William Bumpus wearing a trench coat with her body wrapped in saran wrap. "He went, 'What is that?'” King said. "So, that's not good for your ego."
Ultimately, Winfrey provided this advice: “Ask him what would be spicy.” In the same breath she also revealed that while the negligee was a fail, her skills in the kitchen do the trick. "For me, I gotta say making cornbread kind of serves the purpose," she said. "I made some cornbread yesterday, and you would have thought I stripped myself butt-naked. Like, a little cornbread and black-eyed peas goes a long way in my house."
Next, they moved on to whether significant others should have each other’s phone pass codes. While Winfrey said she would give hers to her partner if he asked, she told this reader they did not have to give it up.“I think you should have your own pass code for your own phone and your personal things on your phone,” Winfrey said.
King was a little more open to it. “I say people who have nothing to hide hide nothing,” she said. “To me it’s no big deal if your significant other has your pass code.”
Winfrey and King went on to answer questions about sleeping together on the first date, then advised two different readers to call it quits with their S.O., and told one to harvest their eggs.
