Picture this: You're standing in front of your betrothed, wearing your dream dress, about to be pronounced officially wed—when your officiant drops your wedding rings into a pond. Sound like a nightmare? It is! And for one unlucky couple, bless their hearts, it was reality.
In a now-viral gif on Reddit, a couple stands on a bridge with their officiant and bridal party during their wedding ceremony. The best man then brings the rings to the officiant, and in one horrible, cringe-worthy second, the officiant opens the box of rings upside down, letting them fall out of his hands and into the pond below the bridge. The bride, groom, and officiant alike all freeze in their tracks for a few moments, unable to believe what just happened.
It is, without a doubt, the worst thing you will see today. (Unless of course, you read political news.)
The short clip was posted to Reddit yesterday, appropriately filed under the Subreddit r/watchpeopledieinside, and within 24 hours it has amassed over 26,000 upvotes. And in case you had your doubts that something this awful could happen, someone found the original video to verify the gif and remind us all that yes, everything is horrible.
While everyone probably had the same uncomfortable reaction when they watched the clip, there are a varying amount of responses to who deserves the blame for this uncomfortable situation. One user responded, "The best man f---ed up. He had one f---ing job to do. Deliver the ring. When you order a steak, does the waiter bring it out and then rest it upside-down on the table? No."
Naturally, the clip also sparked countless jokes, including a much-expected LOTR reference "MY PRECIOOOOOUUUUUUS! Gollum understands the exquisite pain"
