Last week, former Bachelor couple Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi decided to call of their engagement and ultimately go their separate ways. As fans everywhere try their best to accept the sad (but not really surprising) news, there's one question that seemingly begs for an answer: What happens to the engagement ring? Five months ago, viewers watched Viall pop the question to Grimaldi with a gorgeous Neil Lane ring, which featured 3.75 carats of diamonds, including a massive round center stone that is surrounded by a halo of smaller diamonds, bordered by two baguette-cut diamonds.
So, what happened to the sparkler? Well, its fate is unknown, even to its own designer. “I make the rings with love and always hope for the best,” Neil Lane told People back in May, after Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell broke up. “But once I present the rings, I don’t know what happens to them afterwards if the couple breakup. I think the ring goes to ring heaven.”
Viall and Grimaldi have since opened up about the split, and both are trying their best to remain positive. "In times that aren’t great, you have to kind of spend time with your loved ones," Viall admitted to Us Weekly. "I'm lucky enough to have friends outside of L.A. I’m heading back to Chicago this weekend, which I think will be good for me. I’m trying to stay positive, being around friends and family. It helps me stay positive. And you know, what helps me is just kind of believing in yourself. It’s obviously easy to get insecure and feel bad about yourself. You get in your head about things when things aren’t working out for you."
Grimaldi took to Instagram to share an emotional message on the matter. "It's okay to feel broken. It's okay to cry. It's okay to lean on a friend. In the end, it will always be okay," she captioned a photo that showed her leaning on a family member or friend.
