Imagine getting home from your honeymoon with your new hubby, getting ready to settle into your new life together, and having a camera crew standing there waiting to catch every moment of your newlywed year and then broadcast it on national television. Four couples decided to do just that for Bravo's reality series Newlyweds: The First Year. Just in time for the season three premiere on Sunday (at 9pm EST!), one couple from the upcoming season, Rochelle and Rob Brann, gave BRIDES an inside look into what it's like having every moment of your first year of marriage filmed.
For attorney Rob and Blogerella creator Rochelle, the decision to step in front of the camera was a pretty easy one for them to make, "When a friend who worked closely with the show approached us with the idea, we were instantly intrigued. Of course there were a few sleepless nights weighing pros/cons, but we are huge fans of Bravo and really connected with the heart of the show," the duo said. "As an interracial millennial couple, we've always felt like we had a unique and under-represented perspective, and thought documenting our marriage on Newylweds would be a great opportunity to share our story!"
The pair admits that being on camera 24/7 definitely has it's challenges, "At first you're on your best behavior, but because the show is truly a 'fly on the wall' docu-series, that goes out the window real quick. And after a while you forget they're even there, so a ton of cringe-worthy moments will be sure to rear their ugly heads!" Rochelle said.
Yikes! Despite having to relive some of those not-so-pleasant moments, the Brann's definitely saw a lot of positive things about showing every part of their relationship on TV. "The most rewarding thing about having our first year of marriage filmed was knowing that our story would resonate with viewers," Rob and Rochelle said. "We can't give any away but there are several moments throughout our season that undeniably strike a chord."

They did give us a few details on what some of those moments could be, including Rob, a type A attorney, and Rochelle, a laid back blogger, learning how to find the humor in their fights. "Get a safe word! No, not that kind of safe word. Think less Fifty Shades and more Dr. Phil!" Rochelle said. "Truth? We bicker ALL. THE. TIME.So when that happens, I'll throw a random silly word into the middle of the conversation. The other is almost always guaranteed to crack a smile, and forget about yelling. Rob and I inject humor into our relationship constantly, it helps to diffuse even the most intense of moments!"
The two college sweethearts met at a fraternity party and both admit it was "love at first beer." Rob surprised Rochelle with a romantic Christmas engagement in front of both of their families in 2013. "I wasn't expecting Rob to propose and, in retrospect, he was actually a little ambitious with his proposal plans!" Rochell said. "I had a really romantic plan, but the pressure and anxiety of our parents watching got the best of me!" Rob recalls. "I just kind of blacked out, dropped down to one knee and when I came to, thankfully she was saying yes!"
At the end of the day, Rob and Rochelle are able to look back on their first year of marriage and realize just how far they've come since they said, "I do!" "We probably got it wrong more often than we got it right, but we became more of a team during the first year of marriage and started figuring out how to make decisions together," Rob admitted when looking back on their first year. We can't wait to watch these two in their newlywed year!
