Congratulations are in order! Morning Joe’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski have tied the knot!
The newlyweds married at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, November 24, and had their wedding officiated by Maryland Representative Elijah Cummings, according to Vanity Fair. The television anchors are the first people to ever have a wedding at the Archives (no one else has gotten married right next to the Constitution and Declaration of Independence.)
Although the two are quite familiar with fame, they kept their ceremony private and intimate. "We wanted it to be really small and simple and not what you expected from Mika and Joe,” the bride, 51, told Vanity Fair. "Everything we do is exposed, and everything felt exposed every step of the way, so we want this to be private until it's over."
And they did just that. According to the magazine, there were only five guests in attendance for their ceremony, along with their children: Scarborough's four kids plus Brezezinski's two. The couple didn't even send out formal wedding invitations, and they kept the location and names of their venue and vendors under wraps. For her big day, Brezezinski wore a white tea-length Milly dress with polka-dotted lace sleeves.
Although their reception dinner was a bit bigger than the ceremony, the couple still kept their party intimate. The magazine reported that guests enjoyed Caesar salad, acorn squash soup, roast chicken, gnocci, and other dishes. Following dinner, the newlyweds treated their guests to a 20-layer crepe cake.
Scarborough, 55, explained why the couple chose to say their "I do's" in front of the historic documents. “It makes sense now more than ever, given what we stand for as a couple, what we do for a living, and what we’re worried about as a country."
