Ah, Pinterest. It's where every bride-to-be goes to get inspired as soon as she gets that engagement ring on her finger (let's be honest, oftentimes months beforehand too). It's where wedding trends — like the whole rustic theme and floral chandeliers — became so coveted. But what's hot in the world wide web of Pinterest right now? We sat down with 2015 bride-to-be and marketing manager at Pinterest, Annie Lee, to get the scoop on three of the biggest modern wedding trends to date.
1. Non-Traditional Rings
Because who wants to be a basic bride!? As Lee points out, classics like diamond solitaires and stilettos are being Pinned less and less in favor of modern must-haves like stackable rings and flats. "Pinners seem to be drawn to more unique shapes and styles, including rough diamonds and an array of colored stones," she notes.
2. Modern Vows
In the past, writing your own vows wasn't a big thing. Now, however, it seems like everyone's doing it, as Pins related to this topic are up 200% since last year, a huge jump if you ask us! Lee says, "Modern mates are rewriting the script (literally) and are in search of vows that speak more directly to the life and relationship they want to have." This, we can get on board with.
3. "Geek" Weddings
Turns out, Millennial Pinners aren't afraid to think outside the box or to let their inner geeks shine, which we so admire. "Traditions are being thrown out the window and replaced with unique ideas that better reflect the couple's personality," explains Lee. "Modern brides and grooms are incorporating fun and personal elements like comic book boutonnieres or Lego cakes into their big day." Geek wedding trends, such as superhero cufflinks and a Star Wars opening scroll aisle runner, are up a whopping 289% from 2014. Um, amazeballs!
