When selecting bedding for your wedding registry, the first thing you’ll probably add is a set or two of good, classic sheets. Bravo! That’s certainly one of the most important things for your bedroom (psst, you can also register for a mattress these days!), but don’t forget about the most fun part of making your bed every morning — your throw pillows and blankets! We like to think of your décor as a reflection of your personality, and as such, your bed should be anything but boring. Your basics (standard pillows, sheets, shams, comforter, duvet) should all be versatile — think white linen if you’re a little boho, hotel bedding if you’re preppy or traditional, and monochromatic shades of gray for the more modern couple.
Think about when you get dressed in the morning. Your basic bedding pieces are like a dress that you're going to wear, while the throw pillows and blankets are your accessories. Once you’ve registered for sheets and have your base, you can have some fun with picking out the personality part of your bedding! We know it can be daunting mixing and matching patterns, so we’ve done a little of the legwork for you. Here are some of our favorite pillows and throws in three different styles to get you started thinking about for bedroom décor your wedding registry.
For the preppy couple, think blues and white with stripes and other classic patterns. Because the color palette is so tight, it makes mixing prints a little bit easier. For pillows, choose one solid colored pillow and 2 patterns — to keep things from getting too crazy. Start with something like this indigo pillow from Crate and Barrel as a base — and then build on it with patterns in blues that feel similar to your base. We love the ticking stripe pillow from Serena and Lily for it’s innocuous and timeless pattern, and also the brand's wide-striped pillow. For your throw, this arrow jacquard quilt will keep you warm and cozy and works beautifully with your mix of pillows. You can even get it monogrammed with your new initials!
Feeling a little glam, but in a more modern and less cheesy (glam does have a bit of a cheesy connotation these days!) way? The key to get this look is subtle textures and a muted color palette — think grays, whites and dusty roses. A beautiful metallic cowhide pillow in silver (didn’t think it could be done? Leave it to Restoration Hardware!), plus a gray velvet quilted pillow and lastly this rosy looped marble-effect pillow from West Elm mix together perfectly for the perfect sophisticated mix of colors and luxe materials. Add in another shade of gray and some more velvet with this charcoal throw and you’re ready to go!
If you want to feel like your bedroom is a boho haven straight out the coziest corner of ABC Home, stick to a monochromatic color scheme of whites and creams with hints of metallic. It doesn’t get more bohemian than a Moroccan Wedding Blanket, but instead of getting the real thing, get this take on it in pillow form. Next, add in a Icelandic sheepskin bolster pillow and a leather applique tassel pillow (yes, leather AND a tassel!) and you’re almost done. Lastly, this boucle throw is the final touch for the bedding equation of your dreams (literally).
