This has been quite a banner year for ballerina Misty Copeland. Not only was the wildly popular dancer named the first African American principal dancer in the American Ballet Theater in June, she just revealed that she's engaged!
In the September issue of Essence, Copeland, who appears on the cover, confirmed that she is set to wed attorney Olu Evans, her boyfriend of 10 years (who also happens to be Taye Diggs's cousin!). And yes, she's more than aware that her life is resembling the fairytales she often performs onstage. "I can't believe my life right now," she told the magazine.
Though she didn't say when she and Evans got engaged — rumors of their betrothal first swirled last month when she was spotted wearing a diamond ring on her left ring finger — she's already openly discussing her dream wedding dress.
"I'd like to show my figure, somewhat — romantic and elegant," she told Vanity Fair this week as part of their International Best-Dressed List feature. "I don't think I want to go super poofy or anything like that. It's very different for a performer, a ballerina, someone who is onstage a lot and wears big costumes. So it's not like this is my chance to be that way, because that's something I do every day, almost. I want to feel like myself — but more beautiful than I do every day."
We're sure that no matter what she wears, she'll pull it off in a way that only an elegant, refined ballerina such as herself could!
