If the old adage "less is more" is the guiding force behind your style decisions, it's safe to say you have a minimalist sensibility. So when it comes to your wedding, it's no surprise that you've selected a skyline or mod museum venue, complete with streamlined decor. For your dress, you've opted for a one-shoulder (to show off your sculpted shoulders and arms) — or, maybe, a curve-hugging column silhouette.
You envision a polished look that won't compete with your stunning gown. But now your hair and makeup trials are coming up, which means it's actually time to decide which look best suits your wedding style. We chatted with Patrick Ferrara, senior stylist at Julien Farel Restore Salon & Spa, to get his take on the sleekest and chicest wedding hairstyles. From undone chignons to twisted ponies, these 'dos are the epitome of modernity.
"This is my favorite look. I love its natural elegance," says Ferrara. To recreate this 'do, rough dry hair completely. Secure with bobby pins to hold the shape — leave a few pieces untucked for that undone vibe — and finish with a medium hold hair spray.
Opting for an asymmetrical or strapless silhouette? A polished ponytail will keep strands off your face and show off your stunning neckline. Plus, it's the perfect 'do to dance the night away. Sleek, sporty and simple, it's what modern bridal dreams are made of — well that, and sparkling diamond studs.
Calling all no muss, no fuss minimalists! This half updo is equal parts relaxed and romantic. "Spritz on some texturizing spray and wave strands — leaving the top of the hair out. Take a large comb and brush gently through to create a uniform wave. Pull two strands back and secure with an invisible elastic."
A classic low pony is made modern with shiny strands and wrapped styling. This look is minimal but has major visual impact. If you're going for clean, contemporary glamour on your big day, this is it.

This low chignon screams modern royalty. It looks ultra chic with headband or floral adornments around the base of the fold. The secret to this super smooth style? Ferrara credits Julien Farel Smooth Crème. "It keep strays in place, while adding a healthy sheen to hair." (Smooth crème, $25, Julien Farel)
While this messy half bun might be a bit too informal for traditional brides, for those planning more casual celebrations the youthful edge is totally welcome. Ferrara recommends rough drying hair and leaving it slightly unfinished, then simply pulling strands into a low pony and securing with a clip or barrette.
