We've all been there, scrolling through our Instagram feed when we see a proposal photo from one of our friends that we just can't help but double-tap because, we mean, like, that kind of true love deserves more than a glance from us, right? Not that there's anything wrong with being happy for a girl you went to high school with finally getting engaged to her longtime love, but it's this kind of social-media post that inspired John Crist's recent YouTube video that pokes fun at all the unnecessary steps we take to ensure an Instaworthy photo is being taken during a proposal. Because, as Crist puts it, what's the point of getting engaged if you don't post it on Instagram?
In the video—which is laugh-out-loud funny because it's so damn relatable—we follow a couple who gets engaged on a gorgeous hilltop overlooking the city below. You'd think that'd be enough for this girlfriend to say "Yes!" but because the lighting and the angles just aren't right, her poor boyfriend has to keep redoing the proposal to her liking. She eventually employs a full camera crew to shoot a professional proposal video just to amp up the likes on her Instagram page. Le sigh. It wouldn't be so funny if it weren't true.
So maybe take this video as a warning: Before you jump on your cell phone and post a ring selfie announcing your engagement news, take the time to appreciate the moment in full with your new fiancé. You have until your wedding to show that sparkler off!
