Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have been on and off for more than seven years. The adorable couple were engaged for the first time in 2012, and despite a few breakups since then, their engagement seems to be going strong (based on romantic Instagram posts, at least). So when Cyrus's dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, shared a questionable image to Instagram and Twitter Thursday evening, rumors about secret nuptials naturally started to fly.
"I'm so happy…you are happy @mileycyrus," Billy Ray wrote on both Instagram and Twitter, alongside a pretty revealing photo. In the image, a small screen displays a picture of Cyrus smiling and wearing a white dress. It appears it was taken in a car, based on the seats and red seat-belt button. And on the screen, we see a reflection of Cyrus and an iPhone capturing the shot, as well as a reflection of snow-topped mountains. This photo is a "Mona Lisa" for the digital age.
The Internet promptly blew up—and Billy Ray seems to be loving the attention, considering he retweeted about a dozen fans' frantic replies. "Did she get married...." asked one Twitterer. "Did Miley get married?! I NEED ANSWERS," demanded another.
Reps for Cyrus have not yet responded to requests for a comment.
Instagram user iam_mickyy commented on the image with a pretty astute observation, though, to explain the scenario. "If you try to pay attention to the pic.... You can see Himalayas in the background.... That's from her photo shoot," the user wrote. While we can't find any evidence of a Himalayan photo shoot on Miley's agenda, gossip magazine Life & Style has previously linked Cyrus and her wedding to the Himalayas. "Life & Style has exclusively learned that the A-list couple will tie the knot in the Himalayan mountains this summer," the website reported two weeks ago. "'Miley has a real hippie side and wants to embrace that rather than spending millions,' an insider reveals." And while anonymous insiders in tabloids are typically fabricated, the Himalayan connection is too eerie to ignore. We'll just have to wait for the final word from the pop star and the actor.
And not to mention, this is all coming just a few months after other rumors that the couple tied the knot. Photos of the duo and their families partying on New Year's Eve seemed to suggest a secret wedding may have happened. In November 2016, Hemsworth also gifted his bae an upgraded engagement ring for her birthday. The singer had previously commented that the classic Neil Lane engagement ring she's been wearing since 2012 doesn't always match her style, so the ring Hemsworth gave her last year is a bit more fitting for her unconventional tastes.
Guess we'll only know this couple's status if and when Cyrus steps out rocking a matching funky wedding band.
