Despite many recent tabloid headlines, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are still very much together, but that doesn't mean that they'll be walking down the aisle anytime soon...or ever.
According to TMZ, "sources directly connected to the couple" say "the formality of marriage isn't important. What they view as important are ... they love each other, they're happy and enjoy each other's company." The engagement is thus reportedly a symbol of commitment rather than an indication that wedding bells will be ringing in the near future. In fact, TMZ says, Cyrus doesn't necessarily plan to get married at all. (It's worth noting that the source here is unnamed and unquoted, so take that as you will).
Cyrus and Hemsworth first got together in 2009 after starring together in The Last Song, took a hiatus from their relationship from 2013 to 2016, and got engaged in October 2016. Since then, the rumor mill has gone wild over their wedding, with many people assuming they'd gotten secretly married on various occasions. Most recently (in March of 2018, to be exact), "sources close to the couple" revealed that they were planning a super secret wedding.
"Miley has come up with all sorts of different wedding plans. She is always creative and thinking of new ideas that will make her experience different," the source said. "She hasn't announced anything because she is being very secretive, so only their friends will know, and at the very last minute. This time they are doing everything their own way."
Secret wedding or no wedding at all, one thing's for sure: Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's next steps in their relationship will be all about them, and will likely take place in private. "They're both super chill and grounded," a source told TMZ. "They're perfect for each other."
