We're jumpin', jumpin' about this news: Former Destiny's Child star Michelle Williams is officially engaged!
The singer revealed to People that her boyfriend, Chad Johnson, recently proposed—and she said yes! The two met at a spiritual retreat in March 2017 and stayed in touch after the event, frequently communicating through social media and FaceTime calls. Williams, 37, and Johnson, 40, took their relationship public in July of last year, and less than a year later, Johnson got down on one knee and proposed to Williams.
Williams shared the exciting news in a recent Instagram post, writing in the caption, "On March 21, 2018, the love of my life @chadjohnson77 proposed and I said “Yesssssssss.....I will, I will, I will!!!”
Johnson chose a stunning five-carat engagement ring for his fiancé. The two plan to tie the knot this summer.
Though Johnson hasn't exactly had the same stardom as his bride, he does have a career of his own. Williams' future husband is a pastor and, according to People, works as a chaplain for a handful of pro sports teams, including the Arizona Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers and L.A. Dodgers. Johnson also runs Elevate International, a nonprofit that hosts spiritual retreats—the same site where he met Williams.
“I was in a horrible, dark place,” Williams said of why she attended the retreat to The Real. “I just needed to go somewhere where I could get a message of hope and restoration, rejuvenation—get connected to God.”
People adds that Johnson is a real family man, and can't wait to start a family with his soon-to-be wife. “I was getting ready to turn 40, she’s in her late 30s,” Johnson explained. “Neither of us have been married, had children, and I think you just get to a place sometimes where you’re just so career-driven, so focused on what you’re doing at the moment, that it’s kind of a comfort zone. … Both of us were in very similar places on a personal level.”
