Give this one a gold medal in cuteness. Michael Phelps and his wife, Michelle Johnson, have just welcomed their second child into the world: a beautiful boy named Beckett Richard Phelps. The proud papa announced the news on his official Instagram page, confirming Beckett was born without any complications earlier this week.
"Magical moments yesterday," he wrote. "Nicole and I would like to introduce Beckett Richard Phelps to the world! We had a healthy baby boy and a healthy mama. I truly do feel like the happiest man in the world. Being able to build our family to now 4 (6 with doggies) is so incredible! #familyof4now." Added Johnson in a separate Instagram post: "Our family grew by 1 yesterday 💗 meet Beckett Richard Phelps. I’m surrounded by boys and I couldn’t be happier 💙💙💙." The couple, who have been together for over a decade and secretly married in 2016, also have a two-year-old son named Boomer.
Prior to giving birth, the couple affectionately referred to their child as #babyshark on social media.
While the couple has maintained their relative privacy over the years—especially at the previous Summer Olympics in 2016, when they still hadn’t yet revealed the fact that they got married—they’ve been increasingly open about sharing their lives with the public. (Check out their super-cute Instagram pages to see for yourself.) Last summer, Phelps even dedicated his ESPY Award speech to his wife, owing to the fact that they first met at the ceremony a decade prior. "Today is my wife’s birthday, and we met here 10 years ago," he said at the time.
"It’s the most amazing thing in the world." He followed up his speech with some even cuter Instagram posts to mark their anniversary: "Happy bday to my best friend and love of my life!!!"
