If you haven't already seen it blown up all over your social media feeds, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are finally engaged, and will walk down the aisle in spring 2018. The beloved couple announced their engagement yesterday, and were utterly adorable sharing their proposal story during their first official joint interview with the BBC. And as if we had any doubts that these two make up the cutest couple on the face of the earth, Meghan Markle's older half sister, Samantha Markle, gave us even more reasons to gush over the soon-to-be royal couple.
This morning, Samantha, 53, chatted live with Good Morning Britain from Florida, dishing about Meghan's Royal engagement. She confirmed that Markle's courtship with Prince Harry is definitely "not about royalty." TBH, we never had any doubts that Meghan was in it for the wrong reasons (they're both just too adorable not to be in love), but we're thankful for this familial confirmation.
When the show's hosts, Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, asked Samantha about Meghan marrying a prince, she emphasized that royalty was not one of her famous sibling's concerns. "It’s lovely, but I have to say I think what’s more important to our family, and certainly to her, is that you find the person that’s the best fit for you, that you love, that really makes you happy," she said. "I don’t think it’s so much who he is in terms of royalty as who he is as a man. I can see she’s just bubbling. It’s so charming and so warm."
"It’s not about royalty so much as it is about love. And that’s wonderful for them," she added. We concur.
Samantha went on to rave about her sister, describing her as "very creative, charming, lovely, full of life, very vibrant, and she’s never changed." She continued to describe Meghan as "so sweet and charming. I’ve seen that so much in her recently. She’s overwhelmingly happy. So all that comes out. It’s nice."
Meghan and Samantha share a father, Thomas Markle, who Samantha described as "excited" and "very proud" regarding his daughter's recent engagement. "[He's] excited and very proud and very happy," she said. "Doesn't every father want his daughter's happiness? He knows she is happy and I can say he is elated, as we all are."
Their engagement is also backed by Harry's side of the family—Prince William and Kate Middleton took to Twitter (because this is the 21st century, duh) to give the new Royal couple their blessing. In the tweet from the official Kensington Palace account, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge declared that they are "very excited for Harry and Meghan" and that "it has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and see how happy she and Harry are together." So much royal love!
Following their big engagement reveal, Prince Harry and Markle also just released their wedding date and venue today. The duo plans to tie the knot in May 2018 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in England.
Even though Markle clearly prioritizes love over social status, there's no doubt she'll make an excellent addition to the Royal family, especially since she already seems so well-received AND got the exclusive invite to Christmas with the Queen.
