The holiday spirit is in full swing amidst the royal family, with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry gearing up for their first Christmas together as a married couple. And while celebrations will undoubtedly be merry and bright, there's one person who will be notably missing from the festivities: Meghan Markle's mom, Doria Ragland.
It was previously believed that Ragland would be spending Christmas with her daughter and the royal family, but new information reveals that that actually won't be the case. Some initial reports claimed that Queen Elizabeth had invited Meghan's mom to join the festivities at Sandringham, which would have been slightly out of the ordinary — for example, Kate Middleton's parents have never been included in the royals' Christmas celebrations.
“My understanding is that she’s not going," royal correspondent Victoria Murphy told Yahoo UK‘s The Royal Box. "I don’t think that’s because they weren’t able to or anything like that, I just think it’s not usual for in-laws to go,”
She continued, “I know it was suggested that she was going to go, but that was never confirmed.”
Though Ragland may not be able to spend Christmas with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry this year, they may be getting a whole lot of quality time together in the near future, as Ragland may be moving to London ahead of the birth of her first royal grandchild. "Meghan of course wants her mom to move to the U.K.,” a source told Us Weekly, noting that Ragland wants to spend “a lot of time with Meghan and the baby.” Rumors that Ragland was looking to permanently move to the UK started flying earlier this fall, but nothing has been set in stone yet.
“Doria hasn’t made any commitments about doing so,” the source added. “She has told friends that she would keep her house in Los Angeles but is indeed planning on spending a majority of her time with Meghan.”
