While Meghan Markle and Prince Harry attended the Commonwealth Day Youth Event at Canada House in London, earlier Monday, many fans noticed that the duchess's engagement ring from Prince Harry was nowhere to be seen; Meghan was only wearing her wedding band from her May 2018 nuptials. But there's no reason to fear: Meghan likely had a perfectly good reason to be ditching her stunning sparkler.
The Duchess of Sussex, who is reportedly just a month away from giving birth to her firstborn, is believed to have left her ring at home due to swollen fingers caused by her third trimester pregnancy. After one royal fan account noticed the ring's absence, a handful of Twitter users jumped to Meghan's defense.
"Like many women in their third trimester (myself included), sometimes towards the end that engagement ring and wedding band just won’t fit," one user responded to the tweet per Harper's Bazaar. "It was such a pleasure being able to get them on again about a month postpartum!"
But this isn't the first time a royal mama has appeared without her ring: As Harper's reports, last year Kate Middleton was also seen only wearing her wedding band in January 2018 during a visit to Great Ormond Street Hospital. During that time, she was three months away from giving birth to Prince Louis, but People reported at the time the Duchess of Cambridge was likely following the hospital's policy on minimal jewelry.
Markle, who celebrated her baby shower in New York City last month, is due sometime in April 2019. The couple have not yet officially revealed the sex of their first baby, but rumors popped up that they are having a boy.
