On Thursday, Express reported that Meghan Markle was able to win over Prince Philip by thoroughly sleuthing his background. Instead of just Wikipedia-ing "British monarchy" or binge-watching The Crown, like some of us would, she reportedly took the time to research his ancestry and family background in the Danish and Greek royal families. Then, she sprung her new credentials as a Prince Philip expert on him during her first Christmas with the royals. According to Express, she proceeded to quiz him on his background, and it reportedly worked like a charm.
“Meghan asked a lot of questions, about Philip’s side of the family and his connection to Greece," a 'palace insider' told Express. "Was she told to say that by Prince Harry? I don’t know. But she got really involved in the conversation."
"The Duke of Edinburgh really got on with her,” the source added. “The reason he liked her was because she was very bold."
Prince Philip isn't the only royal nonagenarian who's fallen for Markle's charms. The queen herself is reportedly very, very fond of her future granddaughter-in-law. For one, she deviated from royal tradition (imagine!) just so she could invite Markle to Christmas, a courtesy she didn't extend to Kate Middleton before she married Prince William. She also officially gave her and Prince Harry her blessing for the marriage, and has reportedly told the happy couple to go all out for their wedding plans.
"I'm told from my sources at Windsor Castle that [Queen Elizabeth] is being very, very accommodating," royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight this week. "She has said to the couple, 'This is your wedding, this is your day. Plan it as you want it.'"
"Everything I heard from the sources I spoke to was that she really felt from the outset that Meghan was a positive person in Prince Harry's life," Nicholl added. "That she made him very happy and that she was really very supportive."
