Pretty much the number-one rule of weddings is to not upstage the wedding—a lesson that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may need to relearn. According to The Daily Mail, before sharing their exciting pregnancy news with the world on Monday morning, they told the rest of the royals at their most recent family gathering. That, of course, was Princess Eugenie's wedding to Jack Brooksbank on Friday (October 12), which had already been overshadowed by Meghan and Harry because, among many other reasons, it took place in the same venue as the latter couple's May 19 nuptials, and because the British media insisted on labeling it "#RoyalWedding2."
As cringey as it may seem for Meghan and Harry to have upstaged Eugenie and Jack with their own happy news, however, their choice of reveal date does make sense. For one, almost immediately after Harry's cousin's wedding, he and Meghan had to jet off to Sydney to kick off their two-week-long, multi-country royal tour of Australia and other nearby Commonwealth nations. For another, since Meghan is reportedly already about three months pregnant, it would've been only a matter of time until speculation about a potential pregnancy kicked into high gear. This way, the newlyweds stayed in control of the news, and had a chance to celebrate with their family before they jetted off halfway across the globe.
That said, Eugenie's mom doesn't exactly seem ready to give her nephew and niece-in-law the benefit of the doubt. As The Daily Mail reports, exactly one minute after Kensington Palace tweeted out the news of Harry and Meghan's baby-to-be, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, tweeted a picture of herself at her daughter's wedding. Though the timing of those two tweets could be entirely coincidental, Fergie went on to continue tweeting photos from Eugenie's big day all morning long, not pausing at all to congratulate the other newlyweds in the family.
It's all very suspicious and dramatic but, really, all that matters is that Eugenie had a gorgeous wedding and that we'll soon get to fawn over yet another adorable royal baby.
