Earlier this month, Buckingham Palace announced that Baby Archie's christening was just around the corner—and now the big event has arrived. Christenings are a big deal for royals, and Meghan Markle and Prince Harry wanted to keep this one in on the private side. Still, they did share a couple of images taken right after the ceremony on Saturday, including one family portrait that their wedding photographer Chris Allerton shot in the Green Drawing Room at Windsor Castle.

Some people had taken issue with the fact that the christening would be so private; Kate Middleton and Prince William had more public ceremonies for their kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis in past years. But Markle and Prince Harry have long signaled that they like to keep family matters to themselves—and they did offer one photo that captures a more personal side of the event. In addition to the portrait, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a sweet, intimate, black-and-white image of the two of them with their child. It's actually one of the clearest glimpses at the baby that people have had so far, and it shows how quickly he's grown in the last two months.

The event reportedly included only about 25 close friends and family members of Prince Harry and Markle. The family portrait shows Prince Charles and wife Camila, Duchess of Cornwall; Prince William and Kate Middleton; Princess Diana’s sisters Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes; and Markle's mother Doria Ragland, as well as Markle, Prince Harry, and Baby Archie. Markle wore a sleek white Dior dress for the occasion, while Middleton opted for a pink Stella McCartney dress.

The royals posted both photographs on their joint Instagram account, along with a caption that read, "This morning, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was christened in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle at an intimate service officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby."

They added, "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are so happy to share the joy of this day with members of the public who have been incredibly supportive since the birth of their son. They thank you for your kindness in welcoming their first born and celebrating this special moment."

One piece of information the Sussexes have decided to keep to themselves is who they chose as Baby Archie's godparents. T In a statement, Buckingham Palace only said, "The godparents, in keeping with [Markle and Prince Harry's] wishes, will remain private." People have still been speculating a lot, with guesses ranging from Markle's BFF Jessica Mulroney to Prince Harry's childhood friend Violet von Westenholz, who reportedly introduced the couple.

While the godparents remain under wraps, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did reveal one tender detail about Baby Archie's christening gown. In their Instagram post, they explained that he wore a replica of the Royal Christening Robe, a dress made of Honiton lace lined with white satin that had been commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1841. It was worn for generations until 2004, when the Queen commissioned the handmade replica Baby Archie wore so that the dress could be preserved. It's a personal and very royal touch for such an important occasion.
