While most mothers of the bride have a jam-packed schedule leading up to their daughter's wedding, it's probably safe to say that Meghan Markle's mother has an even more intense list of to-dos, considering that her daughter is set to marry into the royal family and all. But even after the I do's are said, it doesn't sound like this mother of the bride's schedule has any chance of slowing down.
While bride-to-be Meghan Markle plans to take a relaxing, lavish honeymoon with Prince Harry following her May 19 royal wedding, her mom has other plans. A source told Us Weekly that after her daughter's big day, Doria Ragland “will be returning to work immediately” after taking just eight days off to fly to England and watch her daughter marry a prince. (You know, just your average MOB.)
Ragland, 61, is a therapist who works at a nonprofit mental health clinic in Los Angeles. The mother of the bride apparently “has a full caseload and often works 14-hour days,” according to the source. But getting back to work isn't such a burden for the royal mama. “She only got her social worker license in 2015,” said the source. It was apparently Ragland’s “lifelong dream” to become a therapist, which she was able to fulfill when her daughter used her acting paychecks to help send her back to school. Looks like that Suits role really paid off!
“Meghan is very close with her mom,” a source said to the publication. And it's true: the bride reportedly took a private trip to Los Angeles over Easter to visit her mother amid wedding planning. Ragland plans to be right by her daughter's side during her big day. The source revealed, “Meghan wants her mother to walk her down the aisle.”
Thomas Markle, Meghan's father, has apparent “ongoing health issues,” and there are questions of whether or not he will be able to attend her big day. “If he can make it then he will be the one to do the job, but there are concerns that he is not reliable,” the source said. “He’s expressed a huge desire to be there with Meghan.” However, there's conflicting rumors regarding both parents' roles in the wedding, so we'll have to wait and see.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not yet revealed their destination for their royal honeymoon, but the source confirmed that the two “want somewhere tropical and to relax on a beach." Don't we all?
