While the Internet continues to freak out over the engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, we're lusting over the bride-to-be's gorgeous three-stone ring—and her flawless manicure. Just hours after announcing the exciting news, the couple stepped out at Kensington Palace to pose for photos, and Markle already looked like a royal. From her sleek coat down to her engagement-photo-ready manicure, the 36-year-old is quickly becoming a fashion and beauty icon.
As cameras zoomed in on her stunning sparkler, Markle showed off perfectly manicured fingers, and we couldn't help but notice that her neutral nail polish followed royal protocol while looking gorgeous with her new ring. It's no secret that a nude-pink nail color elongates hands and allows an engagement ring to take center stage, but nude nails are actually part of the rules at Kensington Palace. It has been reported that colored nail polish (along with fake nails) does not meet royal standards and is considered "vulgar." Therefore, the only shades that meet the rules are nude neutrals—which also happen to be our wedding-worthy favorites. Queen Elizabeth II is said to wear only Essie's Ballet Slippers on her nails, while future sister-in-law Kate Middleton wore the brand's Allure shade for her big day. No word yet on the exact hue Markle went with for the engagement photos, but one thing's for sure: She's nailing royal protocol in the beauty department, and we're inclined to amp up our neutral-nail-polish arsenal. Below, some of our favorite pink nudes inspired by MM herself.
