Meghan Markle is gearing up for the arrival of her baby! The Duchess of Sussex, 37, spent the weekend in New York City, celebrating her baby shower—it was her first time in NYC since her wedding last May.
On Friday, February 15, the Duchess reportedly flew from London to New York, for a five night stay, visiting some of her closest friends. The group used the trip resting, shopping, and dining at some of NYC's most well-known spots, including Parisian pastry shop Ladurée in SoHo.
“The trip is a lovely chance to catch up with friends and spend time in a city she loves,” a source close to the duchess told Harper's Bazaar. "This will be the last time a lot of them will see Meg until after the baby is born so it’s nice to share precious moments."
The Duchess reportedly also had a private baby shower celebration with 15 of her closest friends at The Mark Hotel on Tuesday, February 19. The Duchess's celebration, per The Daily Mail, took place in the hotel's penthouse suite, which costs a cool $75,000 per night—making it the most expensive hotel room in the U.S. The "Castle In The Sky" as described by the hotel, features three king-sized bedrooms, two queen-sized bedrooms, six bathrooms and a private rooftop terrace with views of Central Park. The party reportedly featured specially made desserts by the hotel restaurant's head chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
The guest list also included a handful of A-listers who are close to the Duchess, such as Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, Priyanka Chopra, Abigail Spencer, and Misha Nonoo. The 37-year-old was spotted just before the event leaving The Mark Hotel in the Upper East Side wearing a dark grey button-down peacoat and black pants. She completed her look with black sunglasses and nude heels.
Just Jared notes that Meghan's former Suits costar Abigail Spencer was spotted out with the Duchess, carrying a baby blue gift bag for the celebration—which has us wondering if she was hinting at the baby's sex. (Although, Meghan and Harry have both previously said they are, per royal protocol, letting the baby's sex be a surprise.)
The blue bag, however, wasn't the only hint we might have gotten: Jessica Mulroney, Meghan's close friend and the baby shower's planner, reportedly ordered dozens of pink and orange floral arrangements—including an orange tree—for the festivities, Hello! reports. The pub speculates that the brightly colored blooms are simply honoring the Duchess's spring due date, and it's still not clear if they are indicative of baby's sex.
The Duchess has also already received dozens of gifts in honor of her upcoming due date. According to Hello, a pricey Babyletto 3-in-1 Hudson crib was seen being delivered to the hotel before the party.
Markle is set to deliver her baby sometime in April, according to previous reports. Despite rumors that Harry and Meghan's close friend George Clooney would be the baby's godfather, the actor recently shut down any speculation that he would be taking on that role.
The Duchess will head to Morocco later this week, her last trip before she gives birth. The couple will spend two days in North Africa, where they will highlight girls education and empowerment in the region. Following their big trip, the Duke and Duchess will, according to royal reporter Omid Scobie, attend a second baby shower in London, just before the arrival of Baby Sussex.
