It's going to be a very Markle Christmas. Now that Clarence House has officially announced the engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the countdown begins to their Spring 2018 wedding. But even before the nuptials, the American actress reportedly plans to spend the holidays with her hubby-to-be's family. According to The Telegraph, the Suits actress is expected to be invited to the royal family's three-day Christmas celebration at Norfolk's Sandringham House. If Markle does get the invite, it would be very unusual for royal protocol; Kate Middleton was not, according to Elle, invited to join Prince William and the family for Christmas in 2010, one month after announcing their engagement.
The happy news of Harry and Meghan's engagement was just announced Monday morning, with Clarence House confirming that they have actually been engaged for a month. Whether she'll be spending Christmas with the Queen or not, it seems that 36-year-old Markle may have already gotten a jump on her holiday shopping; she reportedly flew to London earlier this week and was spotted shopping on King's Road in Chelsea. What does one buy the Queen of England for Christmas?
Since she began dating Prince Harry in 2016, Markle has attended other family events such as Pippa Middleton's wedding, where her invitation was upgraded from reception only to the full day, including the ceremony. She obviously left a great impression on The Queen, whom she met in September, as it's royal tradition to ask the sovereign for the green light on anyone marrying in to the family. On Monday, QEII and Prince Philip also released a statement regarding the engagement. "The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness," it read.
Raise your eggnog in cheers to the bride-and-groom-to-be!
