The bride- and groom-to-be joined Prince William to celebrate the matriarch of the royal family at a televised concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall, put on by BBC One and BBC Radio 2, People reports. Kate Middleton, who is nearing the end of her third pregnancy, was notably absent...which may mean the world will be welcoming a royal baby any day now. Queen Elizabeth's husband Prince Philip, who is in recovery from hip replacement surgery, also skipped the event.
At the event, Markle and Harry stepped out in matching blue ensembles. She wore a sold-out Stella McCartney navy caped dress with Manolo Blahnik suede pumps and a funky Naeem Khan zodiac handbag. The clutch goes for cool $1,490 on the designer's website. Meanwhile, Harry donned a skinny suit and tie in the same shade.
The event was the perfect setting for a little prewedding date night. Artists like Tom Jones, Kylie Minogue, Sting and Shaggy, Shawn Mendes, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Anne-Marie, Craig David, and Donel Mangena took the stage in celebration of the queen. The Spice Girls and Ed Sheeran were not in attendance, which may mean they're busy rehearsing for another upcoming royal event (or at least we hope that's the case). According to People, proceeds from the event will go to The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, which works to encourage young people across the 53 commonwealth countries to excel in areas like sports, education, health, and the environment.
Markle met the queen for the first time in September when she and Harry visited her at Balmor Castle. In October, the trio met for tea, and in March, Queen Elizabeth gave her formal consent to welcome Markle into the royal family.
The queen's birthday festivities will continue with the Trooping the Colour, the parade that brings the entire royal family together on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, and we cannot wait to see those photos. With a wedding, a baby, and countless birthdays, the royal family certainly has a lot worth celebrating in 2018!
