Congratulations are in order for fashion blogger Janelle Lloyd and her fiancé, Shola. Firstly, we offer heartfelt congrats on their engagement, duh—but secondly, they’ve been selected as the stars of 2018 Brides Live Wedding. Even more reason to celebrate: You get to be part of the planning!
In preparation for curating Janelle’s summer wedding, Brides asked Janelle a few questions. Her story is so inspiring, we thought we’d share it in her own words.
Brides: Tell us about the proposal. Spare no details.
Janelle Lloyd: I had no idea! I was on a yoga retreat in the Caribbean for my birthday and Shola flew out to surprise me. He was waiting in a robe and slippers in the spa lounge, hiding behind a magazine with flowers and a smile. He took me to dinner that same night and proposed. I started crying immediately, of course.
B: Why are you excited to be a part of BRIDES Live Wedding?
JL: We aren't the type to throw big parties for ourselves, especially since my mom is undergoing breast cancer treatment. [We're happy to say she's now a survivor!] Brides will help us plan a celebration fitting of the love we share.
B: What’s your vision for the big day?
JL: We’re not overly traditional, so I’d love for our wedding to feel relaxed. I love an outdoor bohemian setting, palm trees, tropical vibes with a shot of glamour. Signature his and hers cocktails and a dessert truck have always been a part of my yes-list as well!
B: What are your first ideas about the dress?
JL: I’d like a fitted gown that shows off my figure and has a very modern feel.
B: What are your first thoughts on your hair?
JL: I imagine my hair down or in an easy updo. I like romantic, effortless-looking hair. Incorporating a soft, loose braid could be lovely as well.
B: How do you like the venue BRIDES selected, Montage Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina?
JL: I couldn’t be happier about it. I’m obsessed with all the Spanish moss in Palmetto Bluff, plus my dad's parents moved to New York from South Carolina so it's a meaningful location for my family. Random, but one of my wishes was to have a fire pit at the rehearsal dinner and they have an area with three pits and a s'mores roast!
B: Who do you want to walk you down the aisle?
JL: I’d love for my dad to do it, but he struggles with Parkinson’s disease. If he’s not able to when the wedding comes, I’ll walk alone and greet him at the end so he can give me away.
B: What gets your heart pounding when you think of your wedding?
JL: Aside from marrying the man of my dreams? I can’t wait to see how it all comes together with BRIDES at the helm!
B: What about your honeymoon?
JL: Somewhere tropical!
The date is set for August 4, 2018 and with the help of master wedding-planner Brooke Keegan, we’re throwing the couple a super-stylish ceremony at the Montage Palmetto Bluff. We chose the venue, but now it's your turn to get in on the wedding fun! Starting in May, help Janelle choose every detail of her big day, from the dress by Maggie Sottero, Shloa’s look by Men’s Wearhouse, even a romantic honeymoon in the Cayman Islands, by voting at brideslivewedding.com.
