Mandy Moore likes to keep her personal life low-key. Shortly after Taylor Goldsmith, her boyfriend of more than two years, popped the question last fall, she hinted that their upcoming nuptials would be "small and quiet and private." And this week, the This Is Us star revealed to InStyle that she didn't even think she wanted a classic, sparkly engagement ring—until, that is, Goldsmith got down on one knee with a very "Mandy" ring in hand.
"When my boyfriend and I started talking about getting engaged last year, I told him I didn’t want a big ring. I figured we could just pick out some pretty bands together. So you can imagine how surprised I was when he proposed with this beautiful ring in the fall," she told InStyle. "Even though I thought I didn't want an engagement ring, as soon as I saw this one, I couldn't imagine the moment without it."
Moore continued, "Taylor went to one of my favorite jewelers, Irene Neuwirth, and picked out every detail that he thought I'd like, from the round, faceted stone to the rose gold band. It is so me. I especially love that the diamond is flat—you can see my skin through it, which makes it even more understated." Moore described the ring, which made its red carpet debut at the Primetime Emmys in September and is "elegant and cool." "You wouldn't even know it was an engagement ring if I didn't wear it on my left hand," she said.
"Because he put so much love and thought into it, I've never felt so special. And now it's a symbol of our life together and all the excitement yet to come."
In October, the 33-year-old shared the sweet (and very tech-savvy!) story of how she and the Dawes musician met and fell in love. "I took a picture of their album and posted it on Instagram," Moore told People. "Somehow, Taylor saw it and sent a note to me. We started emailing back and forth, then we went on a date and the rest is history. Thanks Instagram, for helping me meet my fiancé!" She added that, while she was filming in Los Angeles and Goldsmith was touring the country with his band, the duo really got to know each other via FaceTime.
"We fell in love before we'd even really held hands or kissed or anything. It was great," she said.
