It’s easy to get caught up in “helping the bride” and realize you’ve maxed out your credit card in the process.
The biggest role of the maid of honor is to attend to the bride. Be by her side as she’s getting ready, in case she needs a glass of water while she’s having her hair done or needs your help zipping her dress. During photos, help arrange her dress and veil, and do the same during the ceremony. Once the ceremony is over, you’re more or less off the hook.
Lead the Bridesmaids By Example
You’re the maid of honor, but you’re not the boss. Do your best to keep the bridesmaids organized, especially when it comes to things like ordering their dresses, but avoid telling them what to do. Make sure you’re on top of all the details, and they should follow your lead.

As you’re helping with planning and details, offer your opinion, but keep the bride’s vision and ideas in mind. You might LOVE a lace-topped ballgown, but if she’s the sleek silk type, help her find The Dress that she’ll love. Working on décor? Don’t force your “wedding in a field” style on her black tie affair.
Give a Toast Your BFF (and Her Family) Will Love to Hear
It’s a toast, not a roast, so keep those embarrassing stories to a minimum. Focus on your friendship, why you love your friend, and why you adore her new spouse. Don’t forget to thank her parents for hosting such a fantastic event!
