When Vanderpump Rules stars Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright tie the knot later this month, they'll be surrounded by friends, family, castmates, and—Lance Bass?! The singer will supposedly be more than a guest, however. According to E! News, Bass is set to officiate the reality television couple's wedding.
Several sources told the outlet that Bass decided to fulfill the duties as officiant since Lisa Vanderpump, mastermind behind the Vanderpump Rules series and friend of the couple, can no longer attend the wedding due to the sudden passing of her mother earlier this week. "Lance Bass was asked to officiate the wedding due to Lisa having to fly back to the UK to deal with her family matters," said a source. "Lisa has told Jax and Brittany that it's unlikely she will attend their wedding and arranged for Lance to fulfill the duties."
The couple has yet to confirm the news but Bass is a very close friend of Vanderpump, so it makes sense how he could be involved in the wedding. However, this news also implies that Vanderpump was supposed to officiate the wedding, just like she did at fellow Pump Rules stars Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz's 2017 nuptials.
While nothing has been confirmed, there was major controversy surrounding Cartwright's family pastor, who the couple originally asked to officiate the wedding, when news surfaced that he made anti-LGBTQ remarks. On Watch What Happens Live in January, Cartwright defended her choice saying, "I’m not going to say too much, but I will say that I’m a huge supporter and always will be of the LGBTQ community, and no matter what, I would never try to ever make anybody feel uncomfortable. I talked to him myself and he promised me that he was not that way, that he was not saying anything about the community whatsoever. I’ve known this man for years, and if it was anything that I felt otherwise, I would never choose somebody like that.” However, earlier this month the controversy sparked again prompting Cartwright to tweet, "We already took care of this so I would appreciate it if people would quit trying to spread rumors like we don’t care and aren’t supporters when you guys have no clue how we feel or the fact that we have already changed. I’m focused on marrying the man I love. Nothing else,” per US Weekly. Perhaps all that controversy means Bass might be the officiant after all?
Regardless of who is with the couple at the altar, if the actual wedding is anything like their pre-wedding celebrations, it is sure to be a good time. Cartwright's friends threw her a princess-themed bridal shower and fellow Pump Rules stars Stassi Schroeder, Katie Maloney Schwartz, Kristen Doute, and Ariana Madix were in attendance. She also had a Great Gatsby-themed bridal shower in her home state of Kentucky in April.
The couple plan to marry in the bride's hometown of Lexington, Kentucky. Until then, we can only hope to see Bass at the wedding. Maybe he will even serenade the couple, too!
