Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard may have the whole "perfect Hollywood couple" thing figured out, but as it turns out, that wasn't always the case.
In a new interview with PopSugar, Bell opened up about a time, early on in their relationship, when Shepard dumped her for another woman. Yes, you read that right.
"We were dating for about three months, and I already knew that I was in love with him, and he was hesitant because he knew he was still dating other people," she told PopSugar. "He sat me down and said, 'I can't have this right now. I think you're wonderful, but I am still dating other people.' And then I, like, liquefied and fell to the ground, but I felt incredibly respected that he had the balls to tell me we weren't in the same place."
Four days later, her now hubby called her to admit he'd made a mistake, says E! News. "I don't know what I was thinking," he told her, explaining that he had been dating another girl but "[she's] just not as interesting as you."
Now, after nearly a decade together, it's pretty clear that Bell and Shepard have figured things out despite their seemingly rocky start. Still, though, Bell admits that it isn't always all rainbows and sunshine, like it looks in the pages of the tabloids. "It still takes a lot of work, but we are choosing to be this happy because the other choice is, what, choosing to be unhappy? No thanks," she told PopSugar.
Bell and Shepard, who wed in 2013, have been open about the fact that they attend counseling "when needed" and have a hard and fast "no eye-rolling" rule. "If I ever see you roll your eyes at me, we need to hit pause and figure out what’s going on," Shepard said previously. "Never roll your eyes at someone. You might as well break up right then because it's contempt," Bell echoed in a separate conversation.
The world may not have Chris Pratt and Anna Farris's great love story anymore, but at least Bell and Shepard (and their forward-facing eyeballs) give us something to believe in.
