Game of Thrones might be heavy on violence, death, and tragedy, but things are decidedly cheerier behind the scenes. Just ask Kit Harington, who plays one of the show’s central heroes, Jon Snow. Harington met his wife, actress Rose Leslie, while playing unlikely lovers on the show. And while Leslie’s character, Ygritte, was (spoiler alert) eventually killed off, her life with Harington, who she married in June, is just getting started.
After GoT took home the award for Best Drama series at Monday’s Emmy Awards 2018, Harington was asked backstage about how the show has changed his life, Elle reports. “I met my wife in this show,” he said, adding that he hopes there are children in their future. “It gave me, hopefully, my future family,” he said, “and my life from here on in.” (That sure seems better than the Iron Throne.)
Ever since Jon Snow and Ygritte got together on the show, fans have been shipping Harington and Leslie in real life, too. The actors delivered, when they tied the knot at Kirkton of Rayne church in Scotland, a ceremony that was attended by many of their castmates, including Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, and Maisie Williams. For the occasion, Leslie wore a stunning Elie Saab long-sleeved wedding gown with a white flower crown, while Harington sported a classic black jacket, a cream-colored vest, and striped pants.
Emilia Clarke meanwhile, was also candid when she was asked about how the show changed her life. “Really similar here, apart from the wife bit, basically,” she said. “It’s given me my entire life as I know it now. I genuinely owe [it] absolutely everything.” To be fair, Clarke also does have babies thanks to the show—they are just dragon babies, of course.
