Even though Kirsten Dunst and her fiancé, Jesse Plemons, played husband and wife on our TV screens, IRL Dunst and Plemons tend to keep their relationship a little more private and out of the public eye. After starring together in the second season of FX's Fargo, the couple quietly became engaged, with Dunst unceremoniously debuting her engagement ring on the red carpet earlier this year. Since then, both this soon-to-be bride and groom have remained rather tight-lipped on their relationship. That is, until just last week, when Dunst appeared on The Tonight Show, where she dished some details on the proposal, which was—just like their engagement—surprisingly low-key.
Dunst rang in the new year with some new bling, as she was first seen rocking her engagement ring in early January. She later gave us a second peek at the ring during Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, when she showed off her stunning oval-cut diamond set in a yellow-gold band.
But just how did that ring get on Dunst's finger? Well, she sat down with Jimmy Fallon and revealed the details of her proposal. "I got engaged," the actress said publicly for the first time, telling Fallon that she and Plemons began dating about a year after filming wrapped on Fargo. "We became really good friends first," she said. "I love hanging out with him."
But getting the proposal details out of Dunst took a little prodding from the host. "I'm just seeing his mom watch the show, my mom watch the show, our friends, him being like, 'Don't say too much, babe,'" said Dunst, before going into the details.
"I was a little sick when he did it, which was funny," the actress began. "But that's good—in sickness and in health, you know. That works, right?" Getting a jump start on those vows, we see! "I was in sweats," Dunst also noted. If sweatpants aren't the very definition of a low-key proposal, we don't know what is.
Dunst did somewhat see the proposal coming, however. "I could tell by my dad's face at Christmas," she said. "He's a bad liar."
Unfortunately, Fallon didn't get any wedding-day details from this one. Although Dunst did reveal what she would name their first child! "I'll name my kid Fargo Season 2," she joked.
