Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom plan to spend the rest of their lives together, but they’re definitely not rushing their journey to the altar—and there’s good reason for that.

The singer, 34, told KISS Breakfast With Tom & Daisy on Thursday, June 6, that she and the actor, 42, are going at their own pace as far as their engagement is concerned in order to cement a solid base for a lasting relationship.

When asked if she was getting prepared for her big day, Perry replied, “Well yeah, one step at a time. Definitely, you know, trying to, like, lay the good emotional foundation for the lifetime of commitment, which is, like, a big deal, you know?”

Last month, Perry recounted the details of Bloom's über-romantic Valentine’s Day proposal.

“I just remember meeting him at dinner, at this place, this Italian restaurant. ‘Cause when I get a pass, I just want to stuff my face with pasta,” she said. “And, so I get there, and I mean, he’s like, clean-shaven, he’s not wearing tennis shoes, I’m like, aw, sh*t, something is going down.”

As it turns out, she was right: Bloom had an epic proposal planned, complete with a helicopter ride, appearances from Perry’s family and friends and flowers galore.

“The most flowers, like, the most flowers you’ve ever seen,” she shared. “It’s like, you know, when Kanye does that for Kim, you’re like, ‘Oh, my God,’ I was like, ‘OH, MY GODDDD!’”

Perry also discussed the couple’s big moment with Jimmy Kimmel in February. “We had champagne in the helicopter and the [ring] box was in his pocket and he had written down everything he wanted to say on a note to divert,” she explained. “So, I’m reading [the note] but I’m hearing the champagne is broken and the bottle’s everywhere ... he’s pulling out this box that’s too big for his coat pocket, rips his coat pocket and his elbow goes into the champagne.”

Despite their beverage snafu, all’s well that ends well: “We landed on a rooftop and my whole family was there, and all my friends,” Perry said. “He did so well.”

As for their ceremony, for which a date has yet to be an announced, an insider told People in March that the duo are “still deciding” what it will look like.

“Orlando always shied away from anything flashy,” the source said. “He doesn’t want a huge celebrity wedding. But they also have many friends that are important to them. They are still figuring out the details. Katy will work with a planner.”

The source added, “Their past weddings were, of course, very different.” (Bloom was previously married to Miranda Kerr, with whom he shares son Flynn, while Perry was previously wed to Russell Brand.) “They are trying to find a middle ground now.”
