Looks like Orlando Bloom is officially Katy Perry's teenage dream. The A-lister couple announced on Valentine's Day that they were engaged, sharing images of the singer's sparkly new accessory and snippets of the romantic proposal to social media.
"Full bloom," Perry captioned a selfie of her new fiancé on Instagram. In the image, fans can clearly see her massive, flower-shaped engagement ring that features a center pink diamond. While Perry and Bloom's smiling faces are a bit out of frame, fans also get a glimpse of the heart balloon display which Bloom undoubtedly set up as the backdrop for the perfect February 14th proposal.
Bloom, 42, shared the same image, but swapped Perry's punny caption with the simple and sweet message, "Lifetimes."
While the celebrities didn't share more details about the proposal, the singer's mother, Mary Hudson, did share a few photos from the couple's engagement party to her Facebook, captioning them, "Look who got engaged on Valentines Day!!”
One image gives another look at Perry's Art Deco bauble that matched perfectly with her bedazzled hot-pink manicure and long-sleeved fitted pink dress (complete with bejeweled heart). And in another set of pictures, Perry and Orlando embrace under a heart-shaped floral arch. (Did they get Travis Scott's floral guy to decorate their party?)
Diamond expert and a certified gemologist from the Diamond Producers Association, Grant Mobley, estimates that the center stone oval ruby to be 2 carats and the natural white diamonds surrounding to be around 0.30 carats each, making the diamond halo almost 2.5 carats total. He prices the yellow gold band and surrounding diamonds at approximately $20,000, and while he wouldn't estimate the cost of the center stone from afar, other outlets are pricing the entire ring at a cool $5 million—which means the ruby was likely unbelievably pricey.
If the classic floral halo design looks familiar, Mobley compares the early 20th century design to Kate Middleton’s engagement ring, which was passed on from Middleton's mother-in-law, Princess Diana. Of course, the Duchess of Cambridge's ring features a brilliant sapphire center store, instead of the pinkish-red of Perry's ring.
"There’s a growing trend in couples wanting to step out of the box and buy a one-of-a-kind engagement ring," Mobley tells Brides. "Creative diamond halos, whether floral like this one or geometric, really complement the uniqueness of natural diamonds and highlight the center stone. My guess is that Katy has a special connection to the color red which is why she chose a ruby."
Earlier in the day Bloom shared a quote from Daisaku Ikeda to Instagram about modern love, which hints at the type of solid relationship he and Perry, 34, share: "A shallow person will have only shallow relationships. Real love is not one person clinging to another, it can only be fostered between two strong people secure in their individuality. Antoine de Saint-Exupery, author of The Little Prince, wrote in a work called Wind, Sand and Stars, ‘Love is not two people gazing at each other, but two people looking ahead together in the same direction.' ”
Meanwhile, Perry, 34, shared a cheeky Instagram story the morning of Valentine's Day that showed her to-be-fiancé cuddling with her puppies, captioning it with her song lyrics, "Will you be my teenage dream?"
The couple were first rumored to be dating in January 2016, having been spotted together at a Golden Globes' afterparty. Shortly after, People confirmed the two were an item, but in February 2017 they announced an amicable breakup.
“HOW BOUT A NEW WAY OF THINKING FOR 2017!?” the singer wrote on social media at the time. “U can still b friends & love ur former partners! No one’s a victim or a villain, get a life y’all!”
The two were seen together again in August 2017 and then vacationed together in January 2018 in the Maldives, sparking rumors that they had rekindled a romance. By October 2018, sources were reporting that Bloom was considering popping the question.
This will be the second marriage for both celebs—Perry was married to comedian Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012 and Bloom was married to supermodel Miranda Kerr from 2010 to 2013 (the two share a son, Flynn).
