On National Coming Out Day this year, Katy Perry made two of her fans' wildest dreams come true. During her concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Wednesday, October 11, the pop star invited the pair of women onstage and proceeded to facilitate their adorable wedding proposal. Luckily, the entire emotional moment was filmed and posted to YouTube by another concertgoer.
Perry began the exchange by getting to know the women: Katy (how fitting!) and Becky, from Brooklyn, were celebrating Becky's birthday at the concert. Then, the singer turned to Katy and said, "You said you had a wish—you have a wish. Well, this is a shooting star," pointing to a glittery star-shaped stage prop.
After admitting that she was a little nervous, Katy said, "Well, I don't know if you all have seen Becky, but she's pretty even without any makeup on," quoting Perry's 2010 hit "Teenage Dream." She then got down on one knee, sending the massive audience into an earsplitting chorus of excited cheers and screams. Katy popped the question, Becky said yes, and Perry joined the audience in being overwhelmed by their display of love—but not so overwhelmed that she wasn't able to snap a selfie with the newly engaged pair.
Afterward, Perry revealed that she had planned the whole thing with Katy. "She wrote me an email and I was like, I gotta do this!" she said. "I hope everything works out for you guys. You guys are beautiful." Before switching gears and launching into her new song "Power," Perry added, "It's beautiful on National Coming Out Day."
The Witness singer isn't the first celebrity to help a fan out with their proposal. In June, Kelly Clarkson helped a fan pop the question at a backstage meet-and-greet with his boyfriend after Clarkson's Las Vegas concert. And, of course, Adele's and Ed Sheeran's concerts have become extremely popular spots for proposals: They've each watched multiple pairs of fans get engaged on their stages in the last few years.
