It's been 11 years since Katherine Heigl went from bridesmaid to bride in 27 Dresses, and now she's ready to take on the starring role in a sequel.
She and the rest of the cast reunited for a recent issue of Entertainment Weekly, and Heigl revealed that she would love to be a part of a second installment of the film, which ended with she and James Marsden (and Malin Ackerman and Ed Burns) living happily ever after. And the best part? She's already got an idea. ”I think it would be awesome to see, seriously, what are their lives like 10 years later? Do they end up together? I personally think they did,” she says. “I think [Tess and George] have, like, three kids and she’s made Jane the godmother every time, so Jane has to plan the christenings and the baby showers and the gender-reveal parties, but then all the other bridesmaids [also] make her the godmother. But [Jane and Kevin] can’t get pregnant.” This format mirrors that of the original film, which saw Heigl playing bridesmaid 27 times over (including for her sister), dreaming of finding someone of her own to marry. Finally—after some classic rom-com moments, including a karaoke sing-along—she falls in love and gets to walk down the aisle herself.
Katherine Heigl's idea is pretty great, right?! It seems that director Anne Fletcher thinks so, too, because according to Heigl she is potentially interested in making the movie a reality. But for now, that's all of the information we've got on the subject.
Considering 27 Dresses taught us pretty much everything we ever needed to know about being a bridesmaid—and is simply a delightful, feel good film—the prospect of a sequel is seriously exciting. Anyone else want to start a petition to make it happen?!
