Fresh off their destination wedding in Italy, newlyweds Kate Upton and Justin Verlander are back in the States with that just-married glow. Earlier this month, the model and her baseball-playing hubs Justin Verlander tied the knot in a breathtaking wedding at the Rosewood Castiglion Del Bosco resort. Now, at the couple's first appearance since then, the Houston Astros star is sharing all the deets of that special day that occurred just days after his World Series victory!
Just days after winning Game 7 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Houston Astros pitcher and his bride boarded a plane to Italy where they wed inside a romantic, medieval church above the Montalcino valley before a reception at the Rosewood Castiglion Del Bosco resort. With Upton in a classic lace wedding dress with long sleeves and a high illusion neckline, she accessorized her lovely look with a long tulle veil, loose waves, and a mile-wide smile—a smile she was still rocking weeks later at her and her husband's first appearance as newlyweds.
This week, the newly-married Verlander stopped by the Today show for an interview where he divulged some details of his hectic past few weeks. “It’s been pretty crazy, but man, what a great month it’s been,” mused Verlander, according to Us Weekly. “Honestly, we’ve just had a couple days to decompress and it’s honestly, kind of weird. I don’t know what to do with my time," he said of himself and his new wife.
Of course, Upton was on hand to support her love. Smiling and beaming from the audience, Upton gave a wave as Verlander explained that Upton is an old pro at supporting him from the baseball stands. “She’s the one after the game, she always asks me, ‘Did you hear me?’” he said.
The supermodel showed off her cheering chops at Game 7 of the World Series, just days before she and Verlander tied the knot. With the dates a mere three days apart, the couple was understandably concerned that the events would potentially conflict. "Well, the wedding was planned before the postseason, otherwise it probably would’ve been planned a week later,” Verlander explained. "We already had it all planned it out. We did think about the dates, and we literally thought, 'There’s only one thing that can really screw this up, and that’s going to Game 7 of the World Series.'"
As luck would have it, that exact scenario played out, with wedding guests arriving in Italy as the groom was still playing in the World Series.
But all's well that ends well! And Verlander has both a World Series ring and a wedding ring to show for it.
